Engineering Manager / Electronics Engineering position in The Midwestern U.S. which combines experience in Battery technology, specifically electronics, together with Team and Project Management.

The position reports to the VP of Engineering.
 
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
 

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical / Electronic Design Engineering
  • In depth knowledge of battery pack design (specifically Li Ion), with 10 years plus overall experience in technology and product manufacturing.
  • Hands on electrical / electronic design of battery pack and chargers (protection PCBAs and Battery Management Systems), preferably with working knowledge of associated mechanical assembly and regulatory requirements
  • Up to date knowledge of best practice design engineering, and modern technology. Required for both hands-on design and leading design / project reviews.
  • PCB layout design using Eagle / Altium or similar. Experience in Solidworks ideal.
  • Testing and fault-finding battery pack designs – new and existing designs.
  • Prototype assembly, fault finding.
  • Thorough and detailed documentation practices
  • Experience in small team technical project management – ability to lead and motivate experienced teams with excellent communication and analytical skills for internal and external customers
  • Working knowledge of PC / MS Office including MS Project
  • Ideally regulatory experience, UL, CE, IATA and others

  • Working within a small team, and remotely from main Operations, this role requires someone who is self-driven and motivated.
  • Enjoys working with technical people and knows how to get the best out of them to deliver to Company objectives in terms of quality and timescales.
  • Customer facing – ability to participate in / lead project reviews with Customers. Commercial awareness is important.
  • Reporting to the VP of Engineering is an essential part of the role as is regular review and communications to ensure agreement on direction and priorities, and then delivering to timescale.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • To lead and maximize efficiencies of the local engineering team through detailed project management and hands-on technical involvement.
  • To provide technical guidance where needed – either personally or by raising to the VP of Engineering where needed.
  • Hands on design and layout of electronic assemblies.
  • Ensuring effective cross functional reviews are held throughout a project life cycle.
  • To ensure adherence to working practices and professional conduct at all times.
  • Tracking metrics and schedules, reporting to VP of Engineering.
  • To coach and mentor the team, managing and reporting back personnel / performance issues.
  • It is important that the person filling this role can back-fill in hands-on electronics design in periods of high project load, or if other team members are unavailable for any reason.

  • Ensure Health and Safety standards including all tools, equipment and appliances are maintained to comply with statutory/company regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO procedures and the Stage Gate procedures.
  • Ensure work is accurate and up-to-date using latest technologies.
  • International experience required with both foreign and domestic travel likely
