As part of the Product Engineering team, you will develop cell prototypes, test platforms, and production processes to help put this technology on the road.
Design, develop and execute experiments for characterizing and validating cell materials and components
Develop advanced characterization techniques and maintain equipment for both testing materials properties as well as battery performance
Analyze battery test data and generate high-quality experimental results to inform data-driven decisions
Conduct cell failure analysis and provide feedback to improve cell design and assembly process
Education & Experience:
PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, applied physics, or related field preferred or MS with a minimum of 3 years experience in materials/batteries research and development or BS with a minimum of 5 years experience in materials/batteries research
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Deep understanding of lithium/lithium-ion battery materials, cell manufacturing, and qualification processes
Deep knowledge on physicochemical and structural characterization of cell materials and components using various analytical techniques (XRD, SEM-EDX, TEM, XPS, DSC/TGA, X-ray tomography, etc.)
You know the properties and trade-offs of engineering materials and processes
Knowledge of statistical process control and repeatability/reproducibility techniques
You can use tolerance analysis and are familiar with failure modes and effects analysis
You are skilled in quality management processes
Familiarity with JMP software, design of experiment, and statistical analysis
You have excellent data analysis and presentation skills
