We are a leading international manufacturer of industrial batteries for critical power applications. Priority consideration will be given if you have experience in battery engineering, manufacturing or production.
Participate in the design, development, optimization, and ongoing monitoring of lithium-ion battery manufacturing lines. The Industrial Engineer participates in the line concept origination, line planning/design, line implementation, and ongoing line monitoring activities of our Virginia lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing facility. Assignments are broad in nature, requiring appreciable initiative, originality, ingenuity, and excellent problem-solving skills. Performance on assignments is measured by proxy through manufacturing KPIs of the facility. This engineer will be responsible for the continual improvement of processes, manufacturing techniques, and technologies deployed throughout the manufacturing facility.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Include the following, but other duties may apply:
Design, develop, characterize, optimize, and validate manufacturing equipment and production lines for our battery systems.
Assist with planning for equipment layouts, workflow, and safety precautions in an industrial environment.
Participate in problem solving activities to improve efficiency of operations.
Perform capacity and layout analysis on manufacturing equipment.
Optimize the use of floor space, materials, personnel, and equipment.
Support project management for capital equipment acquisition, prepare cost estimates, timelines, and budgets for proposed improvement initiatives and planned lines.
Utilize value stream mapping, process flow, and other Lean Manufacturing tools.
Analyze existing operations and propose cost justified improvements.
Provide information for various management systems.
Develop, track, and report metrics to identify and remove process flow bottlenecks.
Support capital expenditure justification analysis and project budget tracking.
Support and coordinate with customers in the preparation of documentation as required.
Influence product design to optimize manufacturability up front, driving improvement in cost and quality.
Participate in the planning for new lines/equipment in support of new product launches.
Establish a culture of learning, openness, and accountability.
Performs any additional related duties as assigned.
Occasional travel required (both domestic and international).
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
3 years of relevant experience as an industrial engineer
BSEE, BSME, BSIE, AS/AAS/equivalent, or other related engineering degrees.
Good project management, communication, and training skills
Knowledge of 2D/3D CAD software
Ability to analyze data and processes as well as use problem solving methods to identify root causes and find best solutions.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to function as a team member in an industrial environment.
Ability to communicate with customers at all levels of the organization in a professional, effective manner.
Training, experience, academic background, and/or certification in Lean, Six Sigma, Shingo, or Theory of Constraints.
Must be comfortable working with hand-tools.
Must be fluent in English and able to communicate with others effectively.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
ADDITIONAL VALUED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (NOT REQUIRED)
Fundamental understanding of digital and analog circuitry.
Fundamental experience with python programming language
Fundamental understanding of fluid flow (gluing systems)
Fundamental understanding of motion control (robotics systems)

Core working hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST., Monday through Friday; occasional overtime and weekend hours will be required. The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently may exceed the normal dBA. Work conditions may include elevated noise levels requiring hearing protection. While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to some mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock.
The employee may be required to occasionally wear PPE such as safety glasses and possibly hearing protection, as well as proper grounding equipment to eliminate the chance of electrostatic discharge.
